Chiming Tortoiseshell Bracket Clock by Lambert, London

A magnificent 1880s bracket clock with matching tortoiseshell bracket, chiming on a nest of eight bells. The case is in exceptionally good condition, with well-contrasted figuring to the tortoiseshell. The cornices are ebonised wood and the case is mounted with ormolu columns, topped with five flamebeau finials and standing on scroll feet. All the gilding is as new. To the sides are arched brass fishscale sound-frets, backed with material, and the back door is also material-backed fretted brass.

The eight day triple chain fusee movement has an anchor escapement, with an engraved back-plate and matching engraved pendulum bob. There is a pendulum locking screw for transportation. The clock plays the Whittington chimes on 8-bells on the quarters, followed by a gong-strike on the hour.

The 7-inch break-arch brass dial has a matted centre to the silvered chapter ring, which has black Roman numerals and is signed for the maker Lambert, London. There is a chime / silent selection lever in the arch, and finely cast brass spandrels to the corners.
