French Four-Glass Clock and Barometer
A rare French 4-glass clock and barometer set in a gilded brass case of small proportions and in excellent condition.
The gilded case has perfect glasses to the four sides with opening doors to the back and front. The dials are surrounded by a well-engraved gilt mask.
The 8-day clock movement strikes the hours and the passing of the half hours on a bell, and is stamped for S. Marti et Cie with the Bronze medal stamp, which they were awarded in 1860. This was superceded with their being awarded the silver medal in 1889, and so this clock can be dated between these dates. The movement has a Swiss lever platform escapement.
The barometer movement is a super quality, finely made mechanism.
The two 3-inch white enamel dials are in perfect condition, the clock dial with Roman numerals and minute markers and the barometer dial marked ANEROIDE BAROMETER with English weather predictions.
Blued steel hands.
Height : 9½” (24cms)
