Gilded Striking Repeating Alarm Carriage clock
A grand gilded French striking alarm carriage clock dating from the 1880s.
The fine quality case is of a rarely-seen style, with a cushion top, shaped at the front and with extending capitals and bases to the plain columns. It has been newly regilded, and hence is in mint condition.
The white enamel dials are also in perfect original condition. The Roman numerals are delicately enclosed in blue cartouche-like decoration within an outer minute track and with a highly decorative dial centre. Below the time dial is a small alarm dial with Arabic numerals, and both are set within a matt gilt dial mask.
Original matching lancet-style blued steel hands.
The 8-day movement is striking and repeating on a coiled gong, and retains its original silvered lever platform escapement visible through the oval top glass. The alarm is driven by a separate train, and can be wound if required.
