Gilt filigree and blue enamel repeating carriage clock
This is among my favourite of the more decorative carriage clocks – this French carriage clock dates from c.1900, housed in a splendid regilded case with cast friezes and columns in fine detail, and with a cushioned top mounted with a grand handle. Its highlight is clearly the pierced floral filigree mask to the blue enamel dials.
All sides and top have perfect bevelled glasses.
The dials have gilt Arabic numerals to both the time and alarm dial. Matching hour and minute hands are finely fretted lancets, which stand out well against the dark background.
The 8-day gong-striking movement retains its original silvered platform escapement. It strikes the hours on a mellow gong, and the passing of the half hour. Depressing the button on top of the case will repeat the last hour struck. The alarm is independently wound and set, as and when required.
Not only is the clock presented in first class condition, but it is complete with its morocco leather carrying case, also in excellent order.
The movement is working well, last serviced in 2016 (and regilded at the time). It will be overhauled for sale and guaranteed for 3 years.
