This is a fine example of a Model 18 Singing Bird Automaton by Karl Griesbaum, dating to the 1940s.
The overhauled going-barrel movement is key-wound from beneath the case, using the purpose made key.
The bird has iridescent plumage with red wing tips, a moving beak and tail, and the restored bellows give him healthy lungs to sing a hearty tune.
The gilded and lacquered brass case has a particularly finely crafted blind filigree top and lid, the plain sides are decorated with a top and bottom frieze.
