Hindu Deity Large bronze Table clock

Brahma bronze table clock

A magnificent antique bronze figural clock dating from the 1880s, featuring the Hindu god Brahma . This will look stunning given the right position – a big, grand ‘tour de force’ of a clock.

This example displays Brahma with four heads and ten arms, holding various items – bow and arrow, knife etc..

The detail in the castings are exceptionally fine. Brahma is sat on a platform held aloft by four warrior guardians. The structure they surround houses the clock movement and dial. The lower plinth is complemented by temple dog feet.

The gilt dial with Arabic numerals is surrounded by cast animals and relief panels. Every aspect of the entire case is beautifully detailed.

The French original eight-day spring driven movement strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a coiled gong. The movement is accessed through hinged doors, representing the double temple doors. Lesser French clocks would routinely have a plain circular access panel.

  • Height: 62cm
  • Width and depth : 53cm

All in all a very imposing and stylish centrepiece. I personally know nothing about Hindu deities and I bought this clock because it looks absolutely fantastic. The profile of the case in the right setting will be fabulous.
