£SOLD

A rare opportunity to buy an oak barrel, converted into a mechanical timepiece clock around the turn of the 1900s, presumably made as a bespoke piece for a pub or similar. We have added a sturdy glass top with removable centre to access the hands. This has four glass locating mounts beneath.

The barrel is fitted with a quality mechanical 8-day chain fusee timepiece movement with platform escapement. The regulation lever is attached to the rear of the dial.

The 12-inch dial consists of aluminium Roman numerals in relief against the top of the barrel. It bears a plaque for G. ECCLES & SON, LIVERPOOL.
George Eccles & Son appears in the 1900 Gores Directory of Liverpool and Birkenhead trade directory in the Watch Manufacturers section at 29 Ranelagh Street, Liverpool.

Original matching aluminium brass hands.

Height of barrel – 42cms
Diameter of the glass table – 60cms
