Regency period Rosewood Bracket Clock
A fine Regency rosewood bracket clock, dating from c.1820.
The architectural case has well-figured rosewood veneers, the canted front corners inlaid with brass strips and the front with decorative inlaid brasswork all in excellent condition, not lifting anywhere. It has its original brass rosette handles and fish-scale side frets, and stands on brass ball feet.
The single fusee 8-day movement has shaped plates and has, most unusually, a passing strike. That is to say, it strikes the bell just once each hour, and not the number of the hours.
The 8 inch silvered dial is signed for the retailer Marshall & Sons, Edinburgh, finely engraved with Roman numerals.
