To mark 200 years of silversmith Jonathan Mappin setting up in business in Sheffield in 1775, Mappin & Webb produced this magnificent solid silver carriage clock, the “Mappin Bicentenary”.
The clock was made in a limited edition of only 200. This example remains in first class condition, still with its presentation box and original silver-plated brass double-ended key.
Produced as an example of the finest work in silversmithing, the sterling silver case, hand-chased and engraved, weighs 52 ounzes troy. The back door is engraved solid silver, the sides are glazed with bevelled glass to allow the fusee movement to be seen.
The movement is an 8 day English fusee, striking on a bell and with lever escapement. The gold-plated backplate is also engraved, and signed Mappin & Webb, number 146 of 200. The clock has been overhauled within our workshops and is sold with a 3-year guarantee.
