William Comyns sterling silver carriage clock

solid-silver-carriage-timepiece

A small 19th century solid silver carriage clock with a timepiece 8-day movement. The case carries a London hallmark for 1898, and is signed W.C into a four tipped oval. This is the maker’s mark for William Comyns & Sons Ltd, one of the oldest and most prestigious of English silversmiths whose hallmark can be traced back to the 17th century.

The case carries very few signs of its age, having been well cared for. It is raised on four silver bun feet, and with a scrolling handle. The white enamel dial is in perfect original condition with roman numerals and black steel hands. The dial is bordered by a silver-plated brass sight frame.

The French single train movement is weekly wound by a separate key. The movement retains the original platform escapement and is currently awaiting servicing within our workshops.

Once overhauled, it will be guaranteed for 3 years.
